The Qatar Calendar House (QCH) has announced that Wednesday, May 28, 2025, will mark the astronomical start of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah 1446 AH. This means that Tuesday, May 27, will be the final day of Dhul-Qi’dah.
According to Engineer Faisal Al-Ansari, Executive Director of QCH, the crescent moon of Dhul Hijjah will be born on Tuesday, May 27, at 6:03 AM local time in Doha (3:03 AM UTC). The crescent will remain visible for approximately 39 minutes after sunset in Qatar, with visibility improving further westward.
This determination is based on precise astronomical calculations, as Islamic months follow the lunar calendar—tracking the moon’s orbit around Earth. In contrast, the Gregorian calendar is based on Earth’s orbit around the sun.
